Blog post #4
1) In the beginning i decided to make my piece on global warming. i never had an initial piece that i wanted to specifically do. so i did research on global warming and found out the most impacted animal from global warming is polar bears. so i decided to make a piece of a polar bear that would be heart warming to the on lookers.
2) So far i have come across two main challenges. the first one was trying to make my piece look like a realistic cartoon. i was very challenged in this area i did not know how to make it looked cartoony but real. i had to get allot of help from teachers an advice from the kids in my class. my second challenge was my background, to make it look warm so i played around with two backgrounds one blue but the background did not look warm so i changed it to a sunset
Pictures will be posted as soon as i find the link.

Can you describe your motivation behind the two different backgrounds? Also be sure to post an image of your painting in progress.
ReplyDeleteI think your piece is coming out great. The message is pretty strong and its an issue that we have to solve. Your piece help the viewer realize whats happening to polar bears because of global warming. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteHey Quone!! I think your piece is turning out great. The value is a little weird but it works for the painting. How can you use the background to portray global warming? Also, why does the bear have a smirk on his face? Is he thinking of an inside joke?
ReplyDeleteThe piece is coming along. I remember you put lightning in the background, it looked cramped. I would reduce the lightning bolts.
ReplyDeleteThe reason you are having trouble making the piece look realistic but like a cartoon is that they're pretty much antonyms. Cartoons are basic while realistic work is detailed. There is of course a middle ground.
Personally, I would cut the polar bear out and sew it onto a larger canvas. There is not enough space for the background, and having the bear be attached to the canvas while not being a part of it could be used to describe how polar bears are becoming out of place.
One other thing that I know you are aware of (because you told me) is that the polar bear looks too happy, it is hard to see that he is losing his habitat because he seems content.
Keep experimenting, I'm sure you'll be happy with your piece when it's finished.
